Jason & Jess’s San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge Sunset Hour Proposal

Jason and Jess came all the way from the west coast of Australia to the west coast of California, and to kick off their visit, they made their way up to one of my favorite spots in the Bay Area for sunset. It was one of those evenings where everything lined up: golden light shining down on us, the Golden Gate Bridge showing off its sunset hour colors, and a ring burning a hole in Jason’s pocket.

When they reached the top, Jason played his part perfectly. He asked me — just a random stranger who happened to be there (not really) — if I could take a few photos of them on his phone. Sure, I can do that… and of course, it was also my perfect opportunity to put them into exactly the right spot for the big moment.

Jess’s reaction was so good, with equal parts surprise, joy, and laughter. From that moment on, the energy between them never dropped for a second. They were absolutely glowing for the whole rest of the shoot!

We wandered through the golden fields as the sun got lower, stopping for photos with the rolling hills, the Golden Gate Bridge, and San Francisco stretched out behind them. Every frame had a mix of epic scenery and very real, very happy emotion, and I was extra glad for them knowing that San Francisco will always be part of their memories now.

As I said goodbye and left them to enjoy the last few minutes of light on their own, I turned back one last time and caught them still beaming, taking a photo together with the new shiny ring. A pretty perfect ending to a very beautiful proposal!
